LinkedIn prides itself on creating a safe and trustworthy platform that all its users can navigate with ease. It is a safe and secure social networking site that has implemented security features throughout, that reiterates its zero-tolerance for inappropriate content or behaviour. This is inclusive of all forms of bullying, violence, nudity, harassment, hate speech and scams but how else does LinkedIn keep you safe

How safe is LinkedIn?

LinkedIn is the biggest social networking site for businesses and professionals. It allows its users to connect with potential employers and fellow colleagues. Unlike other social media platforms like Twitter, Instagram and Facebook social interaction ranks lower for LinkedIn. 

Instead, it favours generating leads and building professional relationships. This is why it has different rules in regards to the types of data users can share. As well as their overall experience, compared to other platforms.

The introduction of GDPR and data leaks across industries throughout 2021 has emphasised the need for stricter policies that govern user-generated content. Users want social networks to focus on moderation to preserve site safety.

There’s nothing worse than falling prey to fake news. False information can circulate on social media at a breakneck speed. This is why it’s important to trust the platform you’re on. You want your experience to be content-rich and trustworthy.

By allowing LinkedIn’s editors to vet the content it minimises the risk of misinformation being spread. With user-generated content being king trust in what’s being said can be established. Especially considering that seventy-six per cent of users believe that user-generated content is more honest and far more valuable than brand-created content.

What are the security features of LinkedIn?

LinkedIn has a whole host of security features it has implemented to keep its users safe and feeling secure but they also recommend you:

  • Change your password every few months and do not give it out.
  • Sign out of your account after you use a publicly shared computer.
  • Manage your account information and privacy settings from your Settings & Privacy page.
  • Do not give contact information (email, phone number, address) to anyone you don’t know.
  • We will never ask for your password via email, LinkedIn messages, or phone.
  • Be cautious when clicking links to ensure they don’t send you to malicious sites.
  • Keep your antivirus software up to date.

These are simple but effective ways to really ensure your privacy and security is keeping you as safe as possible. They should also be practised across all social media platforms to ensure your experience is the best it can be. So, whether it’s connecting on LinkedIn or scrolling through your Facebook feed, make sure your platform is doing everything it can.
