How to Add and Remove Skills from your LinkedIn

Are you looking to showcase yourself on LinkedIn? One of the most successful ways to do that, is by having your skills on show. If you’ve wracked up a lot of skills over time, why wouldn’t you show them off! It’s just a case of picking and choosing which ones are the most important to list.

Why is it Important to have Skills on your LinkedIn?

Showing off your skills on LinkedIn is important for a number of reasons. For starters, it helps others to see what your strengths are and potentially match you to suitable opportunities. If someone is recruiting and you have the relevant skills on show, they’re more likely to find you and approach you. Your skills can also be endorsed by your connections, which contributes to the strength of your profile. If you’re lucky enough to have 50 skills, that’s the amount you can add up to. Skills with the most endorsements are listed first, and skills without endorsements are displayed according to when they were added. It’s important to choose wisely when adding your skills, but how can you add and remove them?

Adding Skills to your LinkedIn

  • First things first, you need to make your way to your profile page by clicking the “Me” icon on the top right hand side of the page and then clicking “View profile”
  • Below your name, click “Add profile section”.
  • Then, select “Skills” from the drop down bar.
  • You can then type in your skill and select it from the list that appears, it will then automatically be added to your profile.
  • This will then create a “Skills and endorsements” section on your page, which enables you to add more. All you have to do is click “Add a new skill” and type the skill in the box. If your skill isn’t there, type the full skill name into the box and then add it.
  • There’s also an option to add skills from the “Suggested skills based on your profile”

Removing Skills from your Profile

  • If you need to remove a skill, you once again need to go to your profile.
  • Then you have to go to the “Skills and endorsements” section and click the “Edit” action.
  • You then have to find the skill you’d like to remove and click the “X” next to it.
  • Finally, click “Save”

So, there you have it! An easy step by step guide to adding and removing skills from your LinkedIn. When you’re building your profile and visibility on LinkedIn, adding skills to your page is vital. Not only does it take you one step closer to completing your profile, it also makes you more visible to recruiters or useful people to connect with. With a maximum of 50 skills, you better choose wisely and remember to nudge your connections to endorse you for a stronger profile.
