How To Adjust Your Birthday Privacy Settings On LinkedIn

Are you the sort of person who revels in all of the attention being on YOU when it’s your birthday? Or, do you prefer hiding away and ignoring the fact that you’re a year older? If you’re the person that would rather keep your special day to yourself, LinkedIn can grant your birthday wish (after you blow out the candles of course). Here is how you adjust your birthday privacy settings on LinkedIn.

For all you secret birthday celebrators out there, LinkedIn has just the solution for you. You can control who sees your birthday information, as well as who receives notifications about your birthday. Let’s be honest, not everyone fancies getting birthday wishes from Liz who they met at a work conference 5 years ago. So, how do you change your birthday privacy settings? 

To adjust your birthday privacy settings from your desktop, you need to…

• Click the “Me” icon at top of your LinkedIn homepage.
• Click “View profile”.
• Click “Contact info” in your introduction section.
• In the pop-up window that appears, click the “Edit” icon.
• In the “Edit contact” info pop-up, fill out the Birthday date.
• Click “Birthday visible to” and chose your preference
• Finally Click “Save”

Your Birthday Privacy Options

There are four privacy settings to choose from on LinkedIn.

• Only you – Visible to you
• Your connections – Visible to members directly connected to you
• Your network – Visible to LinkedIn members connected up to three degrees away from you
• All LinkedIn members – Visible to all LinkedIn members

So, to all of you out there who don’t want to be bombarded with birthday messages from strangers, you can thank me later…I do accept gifts. On the other hand, if you’re anything like me and love being the birthday queen (or king), you can keep your birthday settings visible to all LinkedIn members. 

Remember, if you want to change your birthday privacy settings, all you have to do is: 

1. Go to your profile by clicking your name
2. Go to contact info 
3. Click the edit icon 
4. Fill out the birthday date 
5. Click birthday visible to, and make your choice.
