Are you seeing a lot of polls on LinkedIn at the moment? Itโs not surprising…theyโre brilliant for engagement and thereโs a lot of questions to be asked at the moment. However, they havenโt always been around. In fact, LinkedIn only reintroduced polls to their platform last year, after temporarily saying farewell to them in 2014. Since their return, theyโve claimed their spot on our LinkedIn timelines and something tells me they wonโt be going away any time soon. So, here is how you can create your own poll on LinkedIn
So, why should you use polls on LinkedIn?
We all know that people love to give their opinions, and polls are a great way to enable your audience to do that. Polls can cover almost any topic, from industry-related questions, general topics or even for feedback. Itโs a quick and simple way to create a post thatโs not only engaging but also gives you insight into what people are thinking. However, there are some rules to abide by. This includes not asking for political opinions, health status, or other data that might be seen as sensitive. As long as you adhere to LinkedInโs standard terms including their โDoโs and Donโtsโ and their โProfessional Community Policiesโ you should be in the clear.
How To Make Your Own Poll
Now itโs time to get down to the nitty and gritty…how do you actually create a poll on LinkedIn?
- On your homepage click โStart a postโ.
- Click the โCreate pollโ option.
- Create your poll by adding a question and up to four responses by clicking โAdd optionโ.
- Select the duration of your poll, the default option is one week.
- Click โDoneโ and youโll be taken to a window where you can add in post copy if you desire.
- Post your poll by clicking “Post” and watch as the votes roll in!
Hereโs an example of what your finished product should look like (once it’s gotten some engagement)โฆ
Once you’ve created a poll on LinkedIn you can click on the number of votes you’ve received to see who has answered your poll. It will break down the number of votes each option received and who voted for what section.
Whether you like them or not, polls are an effective way to gather insight and create a (hopefully) engaging post. You can talk about almost any topic, whether itโs related to your business or not. Although thereโs a restriction to how many answers you can add to your poll, it doesnโt stop you from asking a thought-provoking question for audiences to share their opinion on. If you arenโt already posting polls on LinkedIn, itโs time to start! Donโt knock it until youโve tried itโฆ
