How to Apply for a Job on LinkedIn

Your CV is uploaded. Your summary is perfect. Your skills are out of this world! Only one thing left to do now… start applying for a job on LinkedIn.

Not sure where to start? Not a problem.

LinkedIn makes it easy to apply for jobs through their ‘Apply on LinkedIn’ button on many of their job postings. Some job posts will not have this option but you can still click the ‘Apply’ button that will quickly take you to their website or job board. 

Using the ‘Apply on LinkedIn’ feature

• Use the search bar or the ‘Jobs’ icon at the top of your feed page.
• Scroll through and select the job you want to apply for.
• Click on the blue ‘Apply on LinkedIn’ button.
• Fill out your information.
• Click review to check everything before you send it off.
• Then you can click submit on that application.

One of the best features of using LinkedIn to apply for jobs is that you have the option to save your information for later applications. After the first application is completed, you will be asked if you want to save this information. This is especially handy when you’re in a rush and an application requires you to write a cover letter. Doing this not only makes it quicker and easier to fill out more job applications, but it can also help LinkedIn recommend other relevant jobs for you.

If you’re not a fan of this, you have full control over editing and deleting the information. The ‘Jobs’ icon is great to check out recommended jobs but is also where you want to go to change your job application settings.

• At the top of the ‘Jobs’ page, click ‘More.’
• From the drop-down menu, select ‘Application settings.’
• Here you can choose to turn off ‘Save and manage your resumes and answers.’
• Below this option, you can upload and delete your CVs.

When you have applied to all the jobs you want, you can sit there and twirl your thumbs. Or, you can keep an eye on the progress your application is making. LinkedIn will send you notifications when a job poster has viewed your application. Some job posts will even have the option of sending an InMail if you wish to contact the poster directly.
