How To Setup an Autoresponder on LinkedIn

Do you struggle to find the time to respond to messages? Life can get busy, and there’s nothing wrong with that. However, if you’ve got people awaiting a response from you, it’s polite to let them know that you might not get back to them straight away. But, how can you do that without having to take time out of your busy schedule to reply to everyone individually? LinkedIn has the feature that you need.

You can now set up an ‘Away’ message on LinkedIn, which informs other members to expect a delayed response to their messages. The question is, how do you set up an Away message?  Keep reading and you’ll find out…

Setting up an Away message on LinkedIn is fairly straightforward, all you need to do is follow these steps:

  1. To set up an Away message, your first step is to find the ‘… More’ icon at the top of your messaging box.
  2. Secondly, you need to select ‘Set away message’.
  3. Next, switch the toggle to the right to turn ‘On Away message’. Switch the toggle to the left to turn ‘Off Away message’
  4. Enter the Start and End date for your Away message.
  5. At this point, you can customize your Away message (this part is optional). For example, you might use ‘I’m currently away. I’ll respond to your message when I return.’
  6. Lastly, to save your Away message click ‘Save’

If your circumstances change and you need to edit your Away message, there are a few steps you need to take:

  1. Again, click the … More icon at the top of your messaging inbox.
  2. Select Edit away message.
  3. Edit your message and click Save.

Setting up an Away message on LinkedIn can be extremely useful if you’re taking time away or don’t have the capacity to respond immediately. However, the feature can only be utilised if you have a Premium LinkedIn account.

It’s also important to know that when you set an Away message, the messages are sent until the end of that day. An Away message is also only visible to your connections on direct messages and not on group chats.

So, to recap on setting up an Away message on LinkedIn…
  • Click the … More icon at the top of your messaging inbox.
  • Select Set away message.
  • Switch the toggle to the right to turn On Away message.
  • Switch the toggle to the left to turn Off Away message.
  • Enter the Start and End date
  • You can customize your message (optional).
  • Click Save.

If you have a Premium LinkedIn account, you should try out this useful feature. Not only does it give you the chance to catch up on messages when you’re ready, but it also shows your connections that you aren’t ignoring them and will get back to them eventually. So, make sure you give it a go!
