1 ) “You don’t build a business, you build people, then people build the business.” – Zig Ziglar

Scaling a business is a big task and it is not about just you.

You may have heard of the expression ’employees don’t leave companies, they leave bad managers’. This is true because your team needs to feel valued. Investing and building up the people in your team is crucial to scaling your business. They will want to help you build the business and be on the same page about your vision for the company.

2 ) “Good business leaders create a vision, articulate the vision, passionately own the vision, and relentlessly drive it to completion.” -Jack Welch

You need to involve the team on every level to help you get to where you want to be. The company’s mission should be embedded throughout your employees. Otherwise differences on goals will slow down the growth process. Regular check-ins with your team in meetings would be a good way to make sure you are articulating the vision.

3 ) “Don’t spread yourself too thin… focus trumps freneticism any day.” – John Coleman

We are busy people and we have so many responsibilities both inside the business and in our personal lives. How do you do it all?

You don’t.

Let’s focus on the business side in this article. What is the biggest goal you want to achieve?

Focus on that only.

If you try and do everything, you will drop everything. By doing one thing to completion, you are able to grow your business fast and effectively.

4 ) “Think big, start small, then scale or fail fast.” – Mats Lederhausen

This quote goes hand-in-hand with Coleman’s quote above. You have big plans to scale your business and that is fine, but make sure you start with a few small things first. Growth doesn’t happen overnight (no matter how much you want it to). Doing small and important things well will push your business forward.

5 ) “Help your team feel more connected to your company by incorporating the right digital technology tools into their workflow.” -Andrea Meyer

This is an interesting quote and it depends on what your business is about. Digital technology can be beneficial to your business. Have a think about what technology could help your team in their daily duties.

6 )  “Many companies get trapped by the paradox of hitting numbers ‘now’ versus improving sales for future quarters or years ahead.” – Tiffani Bova, Salesforce Global Customer Growth

Bova highlights how important growth is bit-by-bit. It is not about the numbers or targets as they are just specifics. Think about those goals, but look to improve the business health drown the line. Uncontrolled and fast growth is dangerous and will lead to failure.

7 ) “Letting go and trusting others to do things well is one of the more challenging aspects of being a leader of a growing organization.” – Verne Harnish

The best businesses are the ones where the manager trusts the team to help them grow the business. You can’t do everything and you need to let others in your company specialise in their areas. Communicate your vision well and then let them help you scale the company.

8 ) “Don’t look at small business as a means to an end and a way to make money until the corporation hires you; look at it as a chance to create something of immeasurable value and beauty in a world that desperately needs it.” – Michael Gerber.

Some people think of small businesses as only a stop along the way when it comes to reaching your desired turnover. However, there is no way you will be hired by that corporation or scale your business if you think like that. Growing a business requires time and focus. Without these things, the company will collapse entirely.

9 ) “Every problem is a gift — without problems, we would not grow.”Anthony Robbins, Writer and Motivational Speaker.

This is one of the hardest things to deal with when looking to scale your company. Problems feel like they are stopping the growth, when in reality they are helping you get there. Problems create opportunities to evaluate current systems and find solutions to something earlier down the line.

10 ) “Growth is never by mere chance; it is the result of forces working together.” – James Cash Penney

As we have already noted in this article, you need to make sure you are working as a team to scale your business.
